MATCH REPORT - LITTLEHAMPTON UTD v UBFC

LITTLEHAMPTON UTD 2 v 3 UBFC

Tapscott, Harding x 2

SAT 11 JANUARY 2020

MACRON SCFL DIV 2

A strong blustery wind and a sticky middle third at the Sportsfield meant this was never going to be a classic, but both teams put a shift in in a closely fought affair.

Beeding were without Towse and Jamieson through injury, Trower through work commitment and Taylor failed to show, so full credit to Lee Donaldson, Scott Dermott, Harrison Mitchell and Evan Short for stepping up and playing so well given their shortage of recent match time.

The hosts started on the front foot before Beeding were to open the scoring on 4 mins with our first attack. A free kick from Rolo into the mixer wasn’t dealt with and fell to Tim Tapscott to tap home for his first goal since his return to Yellows. The lead was extended on 17 mins with probably our best move of the match saw Ben Ward get forward on the left and a delicious cross wasfinished from 12 yards by the goal machine Kris Harding.

Far from being dispirited, United came back strong with Will Lintott a constant threat , Foxon a danger and young Louie Mockford-Allott probing away. Deservedly they pulled one back, and the one goal lead at half time slightly flattered us.

Frustratingly, the conditions made it tough for either team to create much in the second half. Beeding were defending well enough before being carved open and when the striker went down amongst a flurry of arms and legs, the Ref looked to get the decision right when awarding the penalty that Foxon converted with 10 mons remaining.

A draw looked the likely outcome and would have been a fair reflection, but the introduction of subs Arran Tewsley and Sam Pargeter freshened things up for the final push. Tews was inches from sliding in a cross at the far post from Rolo. A few mins later he was to deliver a peach of a free kick on the right to Kris who got his near p9st run and first time shot perfect to win the game for us. Goal number 26 this season for Kris, and none have been more important.

The win took us 4 points clear in Second and 7 points behind League leaders Montpelier Villa. MOM Lee Donaldson superb on his first start of the season and having to work had to contain Lintott. Next up, a visit to UBMF from Copthorne in a tasty 2nd v 3. C’mon Beeding !
