Scorers Harding, Barnett, Taylor, Trower

Leo Trower, Lewie Jamieson and Jonny Taylor returned to the starting line up, and Chris Barnett deservedly was given another start after a promising first start last week. Alfie Capper was rewarded with a first start for 3 seasons after impressive performances with the Reserves, and gave us a bit more bite in midfield. As important, you just sensed the whole attitude of the team on and off the pitch was much more like it as we visited the reigning League champions.

A goal less first half of few chances as both teams largely cancelled each other out. Both teams picked up cautions for foul tackles, including our own Alfie Capper as no quarter was asked or given. A solid 45 but short of creativity, HT 0 -0.

A few adjustments to our shape at half time and we came out on the front foot. Jonny was getting involved, and moving the ball short and quicker was looking more threatening. We then had a golden 4 goal spell in a 12 min period that wrapped the game up. Moving the ball from back to front quickly and Jonny was played in, got his cross over, and there was Kris to convert from 6 yards with number 28 of a prolific season. Within a minute Chris Barnett was in the defenders face to nick it off him and coolly tuck it down the side of the keeper for 2 v 0.

Similarly pressing high, Jonny was put through to slot home his 9th of the season. Finally, good interplay released Leo through from right back to score with a delicious chip.

Frustratingly, we were reduced to 10 men on 70 mins when Alfie received a second yellow for kicking the ball away when mistakenly thinking the Ref was playing advantage. Tough one for him, but the Ref called it correctly. Making full use of our subs to tighten things up, we saw out an onslaught from the home team to keep a clean sheet. Indeed Rolo and Jonny could have extended the lead when put through 1 on 1 on the counter attack.

An important win after last weeks defeat to keep our season on track. Defenders and keeper Dan did us proud, and we know we’ve forwards in form to score goals. MOM, Lewie Jamieson, absolutely outstanding.
