Kris Harding, x 2 23 mins, 30 mins, Joe Warner 81 mins

Macron SCFL Div 2 Supplemental Cup

Sat 3 April 21

After nearly 4 months off, we coincidentally returned to the scene of our final League game before lockdown. This time, with the League season curtailed, to start our SCFL Supplemental Cup campaign. The outcome, the same, a 3 v 2 win for Beeding. And again, it was a close encounter and a cracking good game with some well worked goals from both sides. Young legs v ‘older heads’ meant this was a full on battle played in a good spirit. Thankfully our own fitness levels stood up well.

Beeding were 2 nil up inside 30 mins. The first, A lovely back to front move starting from GK Dan Banks playing the ball out to Callum Towse, a delightful ball inside the full back for a first time cross from James Rowland was met 10 yards out by Kris Harding for a super opening goal. A bit of a controversial second when a handball from the Rangers helped the ball into the net, but the Ref had already blown. After initially giving the goal, and following a long conversation with the Lino, the Ref had no alternative but to call the game back for the penalty which Kris duly converted. Not an easy situation for the Ref, but he handled it well and both teams accepted the decision and got on with it.

St Francis were to pull one back when the excellent Jake Lindsey cut in from the left and curled it into the top corner giving Dan no chance, 1-2 and game on.

Early in the second half, Rangers were level. A well delivered free kick and Hugo Lefevre met it with a bullet header from the penalty spot. Unfortunately Hugo’s involvement was to be short lived. A totally accidental bad clash of heads on the halfway line with our own Jamie Rowland shortly after. With both players laid out with identical badly gashed foreheads, they were both bandaged up after a lengthy stop in play and whisked off to the nearby Princess Royal Hospital, their game over. Hugo was one of our Club Lino’s in the SCFL 2019/20 campaign, and a good friend of ours. Both were patched up, and sent home with a helluva headache, after hanging around A & E as is the norm with these things.

The game re-started with both teams probing away searching for a winner. Beeding were to get the all important goal when Pat O’Sullivan put through Joe Warner 1 on 1 with the keeper, which he coolly finished for his first Beeding goal. We survived a late scare when Ollie Munt rattled the crossbar to pick up our first 3 points in our Pool. Elsewhere, there were wins for Charlwood and TD Shipley. This is going to be a very tight group !

Beeding MOM was match winner Joe Warner. Excellent energy levels after a 6 month break from action due to injury and work commitments, it was comfortably his best performance in a Beeding shirt. Well played Joe.

Next up, we are home to Charlwood Sat 10 April, another tough game ahead.
