MATCH REPORT: UBFC v ANGMERING VILLAGE

A convincing win in the end against one of the top teams, but not without a Beeding wobble a long the way.

With Charlie Townsend joining the injured Drew McGill and Harry Smith on the sidelines, it was a return to the starting line up for Callum Towse, Jonny Taylor and Kris Harding, and new recruit James Sandford had Leo Trower and Henry Hayden for company on the bench for our first game at UBMF for 2 months. Pitch was good, but likely to cut up after heavy overnight rain.

Beeding were out of the traps fast with Tim Tapscott creating a host of chances, 2 excellent finishes from Kris and Jonny had us 2 up inside 15 mins, and it should have been more. Inexplicably we went into cruise control, and after a few warnings Angmering were back in with a penalty and a well finished second to go in 2-2 at HT. We had to start all over again, and with young Justin Gregory crocked with a hammy, Leo was summoned to do an emergency cover job at left back for the second half.

Don’t know what got said in the Changing Rooms at half time……but in worked. As good a 45 mins of attacking football as we have produced this season. 6 goals with Kris completing a hat trick, Rolo adding 2 and another from the permanent threat of Jonny. The opportunity was taken to give a debut to James Sandford in the last 20, and after already seeing a header come back off the cross bar, he was to complete the scoring with a well taken goal on his first Beeding outing. Fellow sub Henry had an effort disallowed when straying offside at the far post, and conceding a sloppy late goal wasn’t in the script, but it would be harsh to dwell on the mistakes in an otherwise terrific turn around from the lads.

Lots of MOM contenders, Jamieson excellent at the back, Jonny a constant threat up front, Kris back to best with a well taken hat trick, Tim had a super time in the 10 role until tiring and offers that extra creativity with his assists, but the unanimous verdict of the management team was Callum, didn’t put a foot or pass wrong all game, his cool composure got us back playing again. Well played !

Much credit should go to Angmering. A depleted side and with the stand in goalie having to hobble off late on, they will have had better days. Nothing but respect for their managers, team and supporters, and specially Jon Hendrick, Manager, Centre forward ( one of the best in the Div) and still there long after others had gone sweeping clean the Away Changing Room. Much appreciated, thank you! Finally a word for our own Managers, with Jamie away this week and Tom Wazza and Kyle in sole charge, what a job they did. Tested to the limit, they worked their socks off, didn’t panic and got the result their efforts thoroughly deserved. We’d have lost the game in seasons gone by. Great stuff from 2 young Managers.
