Beeding made it 4 wins out of 4, and the maximum return has guaranteed us top spot in the Group, with a game to go, and a home tie in the SCFL Div 2 Supplementary Shield semi final play offs, to be played Sat 8 May.
The opportunity was taken to rotate the squad with another big game coming up on Tuesday v TD Shipley, with Kris Harding and Ben Ward rested and joined by Leo Trower and Jamie Rowland returning after injury on a strong bench. Jack Spinks was given his senior debut, and can be well pleased with a lively contribution.
Beeding again took an early lead with strikes from Frazer Lawrence, and Ryan Warr, but this was to prove no stroll in the park. While we continued to pose a threat going forward, the game was far too open and Copthorne were equally threatening, with keeper Dan Banks called upon to make a string of fine saves to keep us from conceding, and Copthorne deservedly pulled a goal back before the break. HT 2 v 1.
Again Beeding were thankful for an early goal in the second half to restore the 2 goal margin when a header from Pat O’Sullivan at a corner found the top corner. Taking the opportunity to make 5 subs in the latter stages made for a disjointed performance, and Copthorne continued to pose problems. The No.9, who was excellent all game, cut inside on his left to pull a goal back. Fortunately a nervy finish was avoided when sub Ben Ward burst through and beat the keeper at the near post with a low drive to seal the win.
Beeding MOM, keeper Dan Banks, been outstanding throughout the competition.
We move on to the final Group game, at home to TD Shipley, Tues 27 April, ko 7 30pm. TD come to the Shooting Field needing a win by a 2 goal margin to qualify for the Play Offs to overhaul St. Francis Rangers on goal difference, having lost to Jarvis Brook last weekend.
