UBFC 2 v 1 TD SHIPLEY
Harding x 2
SAT 28 DECEMBER 2019
MACRON SCFL DIV 2
AT UBMF
After a 2 week break over Christmas and a very wet period, a mild, overcast grey day at UBMF to welcome our friends from newly promoted TD Shipley. The pitch was drying out, but very sticky in the bottom half.
Arran Tewsley and Tim Tapscott were recalled to the starting 11 from last time out at Ferring. Evan Short, Ben Ward and Kai Green joined James Sandford on the bench, with Harry Smith, Scott Dermott and Charlie Townsend absent this week.
Choosing to play down the pitch first half, we tried to get the 45 mins playing into the trickier half out the way, and certainly we spent much of the half second best to a TD team who were up for it from the kick off. A superb left foot strike from the goal machine Kris Harding that flew into the the top corner had given us the lead on the half hour, a cracking goal. But right from the kick off, we conceded a corner and worse was to follow as we failed to deal with the ball at the near post and Liam Hunter was to drive home the equaliser from 2 yards out. A super flying save from Dan to deny Jermaine Beer kept things even at the break.
Not privy to what got said in the confines of the home changing room, and by whom (though young Justin Gregory was pretty vocal !), but it had the desired effect. Playing in the better half of the pitch we were much improved in the second half. A sweeping move down the left involving Gregory and Rowland was finished first time from 12 yards to give us a deserved lead. Further chances went begging from Jamie, Kris and Jonny, and subs Ben, Sandy and Evan had chances to extend the lead that weren’t taken. That said, it wasn’t one way traffic, Neatherway brothers were continuing to be a threat, though a couple of sin bins didn’t help the TD cause. Once again our back 5 were superb in getting their blocks in and we held out for the win to extend our unbeaten run to 12 League games, and stay second in the table.
TD Shipley proved to be our sternest test of the season so far. They are proving a great addition to the SCFL Div 2 League, and it’s taken a mighty achievement to complete the double. We are due to meet them again in the League Cup Quarter Final later in the season and that will be another tough encounter.
MOM was another tough one. The consistent performances of the back 5, Gunny and Callum were excellent in midfield and Tim had his best game since his return. In the end, goals are what settle matches and Kris once again delivered with 2 well taken goals to take him to 24 goals from 12 starts. His all round game in leading the line was top drawer. Well played Kris.
Next up, a visit to UBMF from unbeaten League leaders Montpelier Villa. What a game in prospect, can’t wait. C’mon Beeding !
