All doubts over the condition of the UBMF pitch were squashed as we decided to move this highly anticipated cup quarter final to the fantastic facilities at Culver Road, Lancing to make sure there was not yet another postponement.
A few forced changes to the starting line up as Taylor, Barnett, Jamieson and Gregory were all missing. In came Leo Trower and new signings Mike Spence and Jake Cockerton to the starting lineup.
TD decided to turn us round and play with the wind for the first half and put us under pressure early on, pressing high and not allowing us to get out of our half easily. A couple of long range shots early on were well saved by Dan Banks and some great last ditch defending from Lee Donaldson and Mike Spence made sure we went in 0-0 at Half time.
We came out after the break with a higher intensity and a lot more quality on the ball. On 50 a deep corner from Jake Cockerton found Mike Spence who headed in to the bottom corner to give us the lead. 5 minutes later a well worked move was finished by Rowland after his near post effort slipped through the keeper. The lead was extended to 3 on 60 minutes when a ball over the top was headed past the on rushing keeper by the defender after pressure from Kris Harding.
Another Excellent finish from Spence as he volleyed the ball home from the corner, before 2 excellent finishes from Tim Tapscott sealed an emphatic victory. The introduction of Capper, Short and Tewesley off the bench made sure Dan had a quiet 2nd half in goal as we started to gain control of the game, with the only real attempt from TD Shipley coming from Pat O'Sullivan who's shot crashed against the crossbar.
An impressive performance from everyone involved sees us through to the Div 2 Cup semi-final against Rustington. Both new signings had impressive debuts and add great quality to the squad. MOM has to be Tim Tapscott, 2 great finishes and controlled the game with his quality on the ball in the 2nd half
