A marathon effort from the lads to combat the wind blowing down The Green, and a well organised Wissy defence led by the impressive Ricky Etheridge to snatch victory in extra time and progress to the next round of the Malcolm Simmonds Cup, away to Sidlesham Res on 23 Nov.
Boro took the lead direct from a corner when the wind caught the delivery of 17 year old Callum Price on his debut to beat everyone and end in the top corner. Alfie and skipper for the day Ian Bond took control of the midfield, Beeding created chances but the rest of the first half passed without goals, HT 1-0.
Playing with the wind and down the slope Beeding if anything lost their way, going long with the ball running on the ball spent more time in the road to Loxwood than was ideal.
Eventually from a series of corners Callum Towse scrambled the ball home for an equaliser with 10 mins left. Frustratingly, it was only for our hosts to go in front again when another set play wasn’t dealt with. Deep in added time, another corner, JJ with pretty much the last kick, and an assist from Parge, levelled things and into 30 mins extra time.
We seemed intent on making things hard when conceding a penalty, only for Lewis Harland to pull off a great save to keep us in the match. Just when it was starting to look like penalty shoot out, Young Jake Martin from 20 yards out with one of those cross come shots caught the keeper off his line and in it went, top corner. Scenes !!!
On a day when conditions meant we weren’t at our best, it was a terrific team effort against a resolute and determined opposition, and a good game all round.
