MATCH REPORT - WORTHING TOWN v UBFC

Macron SCFL Div 2

Sat 24 October

An instantly forgettable game ! Both teams cancelled each other out, and probably the only winner was the tough playing conditions. Underfoot, the long grass and bobbly pitch made a passing game difficult, and in the air a strong blustery wind with the odd downpour was never really mastered.

New signing Matt Whitehead went straight into the starting line up, and was a mix of glimpses of quality with understandable rustiness on his debut. Great to have you on board a Matt, there is more to come !

The unbeaten start to the season was extended to 8 League and Cup games, and a creditable clean sheet owed much to the concentration and determination of the back 4. What chances that were created were pretty evenly distributed across both teams. Pat, Kris and Matt will have wanted to do better with the ones that fell there way, and Worthing similarly scorned the few chances that came there way. Leo was excellent at the back on his 250th appearance, and cleared one off the line, and showed the grit that has characterised so many of his games. A deserved MOM, and congratulations on a special achievement. Well played Leo.

An unsightly touchline melee between both 'dug outs' and the home Club lino will inevitably find its way into the Referees report, and the consequences could potentially be more damaging to our season than the 2 points dropped. We shall see.

This was comfortably the best Worthing Town outfit we’ve seen at SCFL level. Just one defeat this season confirms they have become a tough side to beat, and will be taking points off challengers at home. For us, the prospect of the 3G pitch coming to Palatine Park in Spring of 2021 will be very welcome ! And next up an away day to Littlehampton, as we take on Littlehampton Utd at the Sports Field, early ko time 2pm

UBFC Line Up: Banks Gregory Jamieson Trower Ward  Gunn Towse Whitehead Rowland Harding  O’Sullivan.

Used Subs: Cockerton, McGill, Neatherway

Scorers: -

MOM: Trower

What about the Ressies and Under 18s ?

UBFC Reserves found themselves redirected to WSX Premier pre season favourites Southwater, and on the receiving end of a 4-1 defeat to a much changed side on the bounce back following the departure of the Manager during the week. An excellent set up and pitch, and a return to the basics that saw them challenging last season proved a tough ask for us, but with 9 points from 5 games, and a third place in the table we move on with confidence and form still in tack for next weeks visit to UBMF of The Unicorn. JJ the Beeding scorer.

The mood was lifted over the weekend by the stand out performance from UBFC  Under 18s. A 3-5 win on our first ever visit at any level to Horsham YMCA was outstanding…..and unexpected ! Beeding still searching for their first point, YM played 4, won 4 15 goals scored, just 1 goal conceded before the game.

Beeding raced into a 3 – 0 lead, got pulled back to 3-2 at HT and effectively had to go out and win the game again second half. Scorers Charlie Hodge x 2, now on 7 for the season, Connor Harvey x 2 and Ollie Cruttenden.  The 3 points lifting us to 9th in the table and a real confidence booster ahead of the visit of high fliers Hassocks to UBMF this Sunday.
